NORTH & SOUTH - STE HDD BUILD

Launch NS.PRG from this directory. Keep the 14 resource files beside it.
The original .ST image and the ULS files are not needed by this executable.

Files are opened and read on demand through GEMDOS. Original TC0/TC1
graphics and the game's decompression code are retained. Amiga music and SFX
are embedded in the executable and played through DMA: intro, menu and
endings at 25 kHz; gameplay at 12.5 kHz, switched automatically.
The original INTRO/CHOIX/CARTE/FIN.ECH audio banks are no longer required.

The executable and its file-I/O hooks are TOS-relocatable; no fixed low RAM
address or fixed $80000 allocation is used. Tested with STE, 4 MB, configured
TOS 2.06 and a GEMDOS hard disk in Hatari, with both floppy drives empty.
The smoke test reached the gameplay map after language, title and menu.
Real Mega STE / physical HDD-driver testing is still required.

The file API also maps writes to GEMDOS Fcreate/Fwrite. Persistent game-save
behavior has not been tested. Back up resources before experimenting with
the game's write features.

Confirmed menu SFX: chief = ST ID 3, Amiga patterns 15+16;
arcade = ST ID 17, Amiga pattern 7. North/South IDs 13-16 retain their
original mapping. The DMA mixer runs immediately after the cursor in the
TOS VBL queue, leaving cursor drawing ahead of the 25 kHz menu mix.

Build from GCC.ELF: python3 north_and_south/build_files.py --screen-restore
The builder produces NS.PRG directly, replacing the previous executable.
Validate it with python3 north_and_south/audit_menu_audio.py.
The builder does not update ns.zip automatically.
